The Top 5 Books 📚 that Helped Me Live a Better Life in 2021

Featured

Hello & Happy February –

I’ve been getting my book list together for 2022 and have been reflecting on the books that made the biggest impact on me in the past year in the area of mindfulness, relationships and communication.

I wanted to spotlight key reads that imparted essential frameworks and skills I needed to move past my triggers, become a better communicator, and develop a deeper sense of self connection.

Thanks for the Feedback by Douglas Stone and Sheila Heen

⭐️ Rating: 5/5

❤️ What I loved: Taught me how to take feedback, whether poorly or excellently delivered, and use the info I receive to still achieve a desired outcome.

🧠 Well-being Impact: Helped me understand why feedback provided in certain situations and by certain people bothered me and gave me practical tools and frameworks to move past feeling triggered.

📝 Reading Tip: Pick this book up if you’re feeling stuck or trying to improve how you receive and give feedback.

What Happened to You? by Oprah Winfrey and Bruce D. Perry

⭐️ Rating: 5/5

❤️ What I loved: Learned so much about how our brains process difficult life events and distressing emotions, why it impacts us, and how we can heal from them.

🧠 Well-being Impact: Made me reflect on the continued importance of prioritizing therapy, mindfulness and relationships in my life.

📝 Reading Tip: Give this book a read if you are healing from big or little “T” trauma or you’re curious about understanding how your upbringing, parents and authority figures maybe have impacted how you deal with things today.

More Than Enough by Elaine Welteroth

⭐️ Rating: 5/5

❤️ What Ioved: The candidness Welteroth speaks with about her struggles around self-worth as she navigated a big career in fashion and her personal relationships.

🧠 Well-being Impact : As a woman of color with a big dreamer personality, I felt seen and heard in my experiences.  This was healing on many levels.

📝 Reading Tip: Listen to this on audiobook!  Welteroth is an amazing orator and I felt like I was listening to a friend the entire time.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

⭐️ Rating: 4/5

❤️ What Ioved: A quick and easy read that tactically breaks down how to make new habits sticky – make the habit obvious, attractive, easy and satisfying.

🧠 Well-being Impact: I developed my morning and nighttime routine with this framework in mind and successfully developed a daily habit around meditation, journaling and reading in the last year.

📝 Reading Tip: Recommend doing an audit of your habits as you read and optimizing with the frameworks shared.

The Ride of a Lifetime by Robert Iger, Joel Lovell

⭐️ Rating: 4.5/5

❤️ What I loved: The writing of this book was really fantastic – I felt like I was getting a front row seat into the business deals that led to the building of one of the world’s most beloved and iconic brands, Disney.

🧠 Well-being Impact: Reminded me that relationships are often at the core of good business as they were key to many of the deals struck between Disney and Pixar, Lucas Films and Marvel.

📝 Reading Tip: Would read if you’re looking for a good story and autobiography to really sink into.

Now that I’ve wrapped 2021, here’s a little peak into my top 5 intended reads 📚✨ for 2022:

Please reach out if you plan to read any of the books featured above and might even want to discuss a book or two together .. well-being book club anyone? 🥳
